Kolkata, 16 October. Marwari Relief Society has made schools a medium to bring awareness about cancer in the society. On the initiative of Prahladrai Goenka, General Secretary of Marwari Relief Society, a cancer awareness camp was organized at Vishudhanand Hospital on Monday. In the camp, students of classes 9 to 12 and their parents were given information about cancer.
Dr. Ankit Khandelwal of the Cancer Department of Marwari Relief Society Hospital said that in the camp, children and their parents were given information about cervical cancer, mouth and throat cancer and ways to prevent it. Dr. Ankit Khandelwal told that children of class 9 to 12 can easily become addicted to things like betel nut and tobacco and these are the things which can cause oral cancer.
Dr. Khandelwal said that information about cervical cancer was also given in the camp. Very few people know that cervical cancer can be prevented by vaccination. There are some tests which can detect the possibility of cancer five years in advance.
